This month marks the end of an era for Boston's gay nigthlife scene. For all of the complaints we may have about these clubs, they have been a part of our history. I remember going to Axis Monday nights when I was 18 and feeling so accepted. Then I started handing out condoms and safer sex information to the clubbers through BAGLY. And finally, I met my partner on the Axis dance floor three years ago this week.

So here is the scoop! Avalon, Axis, and Embassy are all moving their gay nights. Emersonians will be delighted to know that they will have easy access to all three of the new nights which will be moved to The Estate and Suite, recently remodeled clubs in the Alley at 1 Boylston Street.

The new Axis Monday club night and drag show will be at Suite on October 1. Avalon Sundays will be moving to The Estate, and Embassy Glamorous Life Thursdays will move to Suite as well.

Avalon Saturdays will be at Epoch, previously the Roxy.

And now the exclusive QueerToday nightlife news, the dyke-a-licious and oh-so-loveable Susan Esthera
is making a big glamorous nightlife announcement of her own tomorrow. She is launching her own Thursday night due to her recent, sad departure from Axis/Embassy. Admission will be free on the first night.

And for those of you who are not 21, do not fret. Shine in Cambridge has you covered on at their new 19+ "Manic Monday" night.

Now, where to preparty for the Monday club nights? Jacques of course. We just learned that on the 1st and third Mondays of the month Perestroika and The Jaded lounge will be from 9-11pm. And you can walk to Suite from there or take the T to Shine.

Also, on September 30th the folks of BUZZ will revive the Sunday night T-dance in Boston at Gypsy bar, also right next to Emerson College.

Sign The Petition To Lift Under-21 Ban!

Please sign this petition to lift the ban on under-21 clubs in Boston. We will hand deliver this petition to the Mayor's office and all parties involved in the decision making. Spread the word using your myspace pages, facebook pages, e-mail contacts, and any other way you can think of.



Outrage continues to grow, particularly among LGBT youth, in reaction to the ban on under-21 nights in Boston. We must keep the pressure on.

Foreskin Shots?

Last night popular drag queen ChiChi La Rue was overheard at Fubar (a popular LA gay nightclub, also in attendance were Bobby Trendy of the Anna Nicole Show and porn star Chad Hunt) yelling "Who wants a foreskin shot?!". She then proceeded to fill porn star Jeremy Hall's cupped foreskin with tequila and offer shots for $20 a pop. For those of you who do not know, you can get herpes this way. We're all about sexual liberation, but be sure to know the risks before engaging in any penis puppetry.



Things to think/comment about: Should fubar be held responsible for herpes contracted from these particular foreskin shots? Should ChiChi? Is this even legal? Do you think it is okay to promote something like this in a bar? If not, what about dark rooms that are so popular in Europe? Are they different than this? What do you think?

RISE Fills The Void for 18+ Queers

In light of the new ban on under 21 club nights in Boston RISE has stepped in with a solution. They can do this because they do not serve alcohol at their venue. DJ Susan Estera is one of my favorite DJs. Both she and RISE have been supporters of the queer community, particularly the youth of BAGLY in the past. And Rise club is a really relaxed chill atmosphere - I highly recommend checking this out.

Young Queer Community Stunned As Clubs Turn Them Away

During the past few weeks club-goers under the age of 21 have been turned away from Boston establishments with no explanation. Club promoters are blaming the city. The city is not answering questions. And the LGBT community is confused and distraught.

Even in this day and age of seemingly increased tolerance, for many LGBT people clubs and bars are the one place where we can feel truly accepted and free from judgement and societal stigma. If this is a permanent ban on under-21 parties it will be devastating to our community. Not only will our young people have no place to let loose, club promoters, drag queens, club owners, doormen, and taxi-drivers will suffer economic losses as well. One promoter for a popular gay night, informed QueerToday.com that due to this mysterious ban he would lose $1200 per month making it impossible for him to afford his rent.

While the city continues to transfer us from department to department, and refuses to answer any questions, one local club employee speculated that the ban was enacted as a component of the city’s new efforts to curb gang violence. And another speculated that it was to curb under-age drinking.

It is time for the city to answer our questions.
