the trouble with normal

"A brave and timely book, Michael Warner's The Trouble with Normal offers a thoroughly intelligent and impassioned critique of gay marriage and the mainstream trend of the lesbian and gay movement to embrace - without critically evaluating - the normalizing institutions of the state....he traces with convincing detail the concrete political disenfranchisements for sexual minorities that follow from the purging of a radical perspective on sexuality from lesbian and gay politics. isaac mizrahi: you can't grope breasts!

Okay so Isaac Mizrahi, the flaming fashion designer and talk show host, is in hot water again! I am going to break down exactly what he did on the red carpet and offer my opinion about the appropriateness of his actions.

Unacceptable:
Isaac groped Scarlett Johanson and Teri Hatcher on the breasts. ATTENTION GAY MEN: YOU DON'T GET TO TOUCH & OBJECTIFY WOMEN'S BREASTS! Just because you are not sexually attracted to a women's breasts, does not mean you can grab them. It is never appropriate to grab someone else's body parts without their permission, especially when it is a male grabbing a female. Sexism still exists in this society folks!

Questionable:
Okay so we all know that Isaac is outrageous. So when he asked Eva Longoria about the way she trims her pube's, I think she could have just responded with humor. I do not see what is so offensive about that one. The questionable part of course comes back to the sexism issue, but I think this one fits into the category of outrageous banter. Personally, I would love to tell Isaac how I trim my pubes.

Whatever! Once again GLAAD proves itself to be a useless organization headed by a... drumroll please... gay Republican.
GLAAD filed a complaint after Isaac called Charlize Theron's character in Monster a "scary dyke with bad teeth." I fail to see how that is homophobic or inaccurate. She definitely was a scary dyke with bad teeth. If GLAAD is trying to say that it is unacceptable for Isaac to say dyke, they are treading in muddy water. The term dyke has transformed amongst the queer community to be an acceptable word when used appropriately and not to offend - by other queer people. Perhaps GLAAD is afraid that mainstream America will see him using that word and in turn think they too can start throwing it around, but come on. Isaac is a big f-a-g, and yes I can say that.

bush takes question on brokeback mountain

Watch this video clip as our "president" tries answer a question about Brokeback Mountain.

You would love it. You should check it out," a man in the audience told Bush Monday during a question and answer session at Kansas State University.
After some hesitation - and laughter in the audience - Bush said, "I'd be glad to talk about ranching, but I haven't seen the movie." The audience laughed some more, and Bush, who owns a ranch in Texas, allowed that, "I've heard about it."
"Brokeback Mountain" is a cowboy romance about two ranch-hand buddies who conceal a long homosexual affair from their families. The movie has won four Golden Globe prizes, including best picture honors in the drama category.

TransAmerica Arrives in Cambridge

TransAmerica is now playing at Kendall Square Cinema, Cambridge.

Felicity Huffman: "I know as actors our job is usually to shed our skins, but I think as people our job is to become who we really are and so I would like to salute the men and women who brave ostracism, alienation and a life lived on the margins to become who they really are."

Dolly Parton: "What a great honor to be nominated for a Golden Globe Award for my song 'Travelin' Thru' from the wonderful, touching film Transamerica. I was proud to be asked to write a song for Transamerica. It’s a remarkable movie that touches you in every single place of human emotion. "

anti-immigrant event in massachusetts

"Why are [undocumented immigrants] coming here, to do us good or harm? You don't know, and I don't know." - State Rep Marie Parente, featured speaker at upcoming anti-immigrant meeting in MA.

Stand up to these anti-immigrant extremists!

"If I find you are in my country illegally, I'm not going to worry about political correctness. I will detain you." - N.H. police chief Garrett Chamberlain, guest speaker at upcoming anti-immigrant meeting in MA

MA Coalition for Immigration Reform, a local anti-immigrant group "dedicated to reducing legal and illegal immigration" is holding a meeting in Wellesley on Saturday, January 21, 2006. Their guest speakers will be: Garrett Chamberlain, police chief in New Ipswich, N.H. who arrested undocumented immigrants and charged them with criminal trespassing simply because of their immigration status, even though he had no legal authority to do so. State Rep Marie Parente, a Democrat who led opposition to the in-state tuition bill which would have given immigrant students equal access to state colleges and universities. "Giving benefits to illegal immigrants sends the wrong message… Why should taxpayers pay for their decision to come illegally?" Marie Parente: "Some of the younger terrorists behind the Sept. 11 attacks, [Parente] pointed out, were not far off in age from that of college-bound students." (Daily News Tribune, 4/19/05)

Protest
Let the public know how extreme these groups are! (The library's page lists this as a discussion on "immigraiton and local activism.") We plan to protest outside the library (but NOT disrupt the meeting). Please join us to expose these extremists and spread a strong, pro-immigrant message. my queer agenda '06

Here's a look at an exciting new book I can't wait to read! It seems to cover every topic we here at queertoday.com chit chat about... you know.... racism in the lgbt movement, protesting war, genderfucking, and the like.

In this new year I hope that we queers are able to publish more books, perform more, run for more government positions, take to the streets more, and demand a revolution in the gay community - and in this country. I also hope we force ourselves to laugh more and well....we need to legalize pot so that people living with cancer or HIV/AIDS can smoke it with pride... and so we can have those adorable little "coffee" shops like in Amsterdam. We need to abolish the governmental system of marriage all together and provide as many health and well-being benefits as possible to all people who are related through blood or through love.... We need to make real affirmative action a requirement in all hiring situations in this country. We need to guarantee that our government looks and talks like the people it represents. We need to outlaw the brainwashing of our children to conform to a binary gender system. We need to make it socially unacceptable for Simon Cowell to make fun of the effeminate contestants on American Idol. We need to legalize pot. Oh wait I already said that, ston-i mean- silly me. We need to make sure every child has a good education, free from religious bias and full of scientific and self discovery. I'd like to force a mass exodus to the cities where people will work together to build environmentally friendly homes and use environmentally friendly public transportation... yeah! And all the restaurants will turn vegan. I would like to spark an end to the war on iraq and all wars and occupations throughout the world. I want to ask myself what would Gandhi do without sounding cliche'. Finally, I'd like to stop going to Starbucks all together because I'm actually going to Starbucks often while pretending that I rarely go. It's a sick addiction. SICK!

harvard article the most in depth

Below is an article published by the Harvard Independent. It seems to be the most in depth article about our protest held in October. While parts of the article seem off base, (saying that war is about life or death and nothing else) it is an interesting personal account to read indeed!

saturday: take to the streets

Resist the Right Wingers!
8:30-11:30AM
Planned Parenthood, Allston

Resist the NAZIS!
12PM
African Meeting House, Beacon Hill

Activism Saturday kicks off in Allston where you are encouraged to block the right-wingers from intruding upon women who are seeking accurate health information from Planned Parenthood.

** CLINIC ACTION ** 8:30 am to 11:30 am Saturday, Jan. 14Outside Planned Parenthood in Allston - 1055 Commonwealth Ave. (near Pleasant St. T-stop) Wear pink! RSVP: daplanning@lists.riseup.net

This Saturday a handful of nazis (the ones that held signs that said Aids Cures Fags at our Dobson Protest) will protest at the African Meeting House on Beacon Hill. Considering they are a small group of inarticulate idiots with very little power or recognition I almost hesitate to give them the publicity they crave.

At any rate there will be a counter protest that will surely chase them out of Boston once again.

January 14th - Noon
(Nazis plan to be there from 1-4 PM)
@ The African Meeting House
46 Joy St.
Beacon Hill - Boston

dobson reacts to our protest

Focus On The Family reported on our protest in the January issue of their "Citizen Magazine." They used the photos provided to them by the tapered pant wearing pied piper of hatefulness Amy Contrada (see photo) of Mass Resistance and the Article 8 Alliance.

It isn't surprising that Focus waited this long to report on our protest. Like all of the other right-wing organizations they will use this protest over and over and over again - pretending that it happened yesterday and distorting the truth more and more. Article 8 is still talking about the walkout we held at the Cathedral in the South End in the summer of 2003.

The entire report in their Citizen Magazine was off-base particularly the part about racism. We know that the Tremont Baptist Church is a historically anti-racist and progressive church. What we were saying is that it is outrageous that they invited people/organizations to their church who have direct links to the KKK and other racist organizations. The report also said that the police were shaken. Actually the police were visibly cold, tired, and bored.

racist homophobes hold justice sunday 3

James Dobson, Jerry Falwell, and Tony Perkins reunited for another Justice Sunday pep rally in support of Sam Alito. QueerToday.com reported several months ago on the many racist connections these three hold including using the mailing list of a KKK leader. And let us not forget when Jerry Falwell blamed gays and feminists for 9/11.

anti-gay pastor drives mercedes and wants gay sex

OKLAHOMA CITY -- An executive committee member of the Southern Baptist Convention was arrested on a lewdness charge for propositioning a plainclothes policeman outside a hotel, police said.

Lonnie Latham, senior pastor at South Tulsa Baptist Church, was booked into Oklahoma County Jail Tuesday night on a misdemeanor charge of offering to engage in an act of lewdness, police Capt. Jeffrey Becker said. Latham was released on $500 bail Wednesday afternoon.

Latham, who has spoken out against homosexuality, asked the officer to join him in his hotel room for oral sex. Latham was arrested and his 2005 Mercedes automobile was impounded, Becker said.
