has anyone heard anything from the pride committee?
I will remind people that if the crime was perpetrated from the position that they thought she was a gay man, and beat him because of that thought, its still a hate crime. The motivation for the crime was still hate, and those charges need to be kept. Please join my voice in making sure this happens.
I think that hate crimes are based upon intent, and not necessarily the identity of the victim. Not sure...
I have been looking into this. Mark is right, hate crimes are based on intent. In this case, Jenine's attackers were calling her a faggot when they attacked her. They can still be charged with hate crimes. No matter what though - we still need to pass HB 1722 as soon as possible.
