Yesterday I sold pies for Community Servings, an amazing Boston-based organization that serves homemade, nutritious meals every day to almost 700 individuals and families struggling with HIV/AIDS and other critical illnesses.
The purchase of one $25 pie will serve a client lunch, dinner, and a snack for an entire week!
As QueerToday blogavist and past Community Servings Volunteer Coordinator Jennifer Pockoski can attest, the organization is always looking for motivated volunteers to help with fundraising events, cooking and preparing meals, and so much more.
In addition to providing meals, each holiday season Community Servings delivers baskets of gifts to their clients, 95% of whom are below the federal poverty line. Each family creates a wish list and Community Servings and their volunteers do their best to fulfill them.
According to Community Servings, "it takes over 750 hours of volunteer power per week to get our 1300 meals per day prepared, packaged and delivered."
